Volunteer welcome day for SS Explorer 71st Anniversary
On the 20th of June, the SS Explorer Preservation Society is hosting Explorer Day, to celebrate the launch of our vessel on the 21st of June, 1955. This will be an annual celebration, open to our volunteers, crew and anyone interested in joining the society as a volunteer.
While we will not be running tours, there will be plenty of opportunities to discuss the vessel and our work over tea and coffee, as well as ships biscuits!
If you are interested in joining us as a volunteer, please see our open vacancies below. Joining us onboard will be a great opportunity to meet our crew of volunteers and get a feel for the vessel.
Restoration Volunteer – Join our deck and wind & watertight teams in their efforts of preserving and restoring the vessel, learning new maintenance and DIY techniques and how to handle power tools. No previous experience is required.
Storekeeper Volunteer – Join our volunteer crew and take charge of our workshop and tool storeroom, making sure tools are serviced and stored properly. Previous experience is required for this opportunity.
Restoration Supervisor – Join our deck and wind and watertight teams in their efforts of preserving and restoring the vessel, supervising our restoration volunteers. Previous experience is required for this opportunity.
Shipkeeping Volunteer – Join our shipkeeping volunteer and help keep our vessel clean and organised, and ready to host guided tours and parties alike. No previous experience is required.
Administration Volunteer – Join our administration team, helping our volunteers with tracking projects and ensuring progress reports are completed on time. No previous experience is required.
Bookkeeping Volunteer – Join our administration team, taking care of the ship´s bookkeeping and helping our volunteers arrange for purchase of tools and essentials for the vessel. Previous experience is required for this opportunity.
As a reminder, this event is for volunteers, crew and society members, as well as anyone interested in joining as a volunteer. There will be no tours, nor will the vessel be available to visitors.

Please bring original photo ID ( passport or driving licence is ideal ),
as access to the harbour is through the Bath Road security gate where identification is required.
This event is open to anyone interested in becoming a volunteer.
Please note: this is a volunteer welcome event only. There will be no visits to the vessel on this day.
