Guided Tours of SS Explorer
Step aboard one of Scotland’s Historic Ships
Discover the story of SS Explorer with a guided tour onboard this unique historic research vessel in the Port of Leith.
Built in 1955, SS Explorer spent much of her working life as a fisheries research vessel. Today, the SS Explorer Preservation Society is working to preserve the ship and share her history with future generations.
Our guided tours give visitors the opportunity to come onboard, explore the ship and learn more about her working life, history and ongoing preservation.
What to expect
During your visit, one of our volunteers will guide you around SS Explorer and introduce you to the ship, her history and some of the spaces where her crew once lived and worked.
Tours are run by our volunteer team, so availability may vary.

⚠ Important Visitor Information
Access to SS Explorer is through the Bath Road security gate, off Salamander Street.
If you are driving, please set your satnav to Bath Road, Leith. The security hut is the yellow building at the end of the road.
Original photo ID is required to enter the harbour.A passport or driving licence is ideal.
