SS Explorer Awarded National Historic Ships Grant £800 to Support Vital Hull Protection Works

Edinburgh, 05/02/2026 – The SS Explorer Preservation Society is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a grant of £800 from the National Historic Ships UK 2026 Small Grants scheme.

This funding will be utilised to replace the sacrificial zinc anodes - a vital part of regular maintenance - safeguarding the ship’s structure against the damaging effects of corrosion caused by seawater. Maintaining the integrity of the hull is essential to the long-term preservation of the SS Explorer, one of the nation’s most significant maritime heritage vessels.

Thanks to this support from National Historic Ships, the SS Explorer Preservation Society can ensure the ongoing protection of this unique vessel for future generations to enjoy and learn from.

The SS Explorer Preservation Society wishes to express its sincere gratitude to National Historic Ships UK for recognising the importance of this project and for their continued support of maritime heritage across the UK.
