Science at Sea: The SS Explorer and the Marine Laboratory of Aberdeen

The Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen

The SS Explorer was ordered for the Scottish Office to operate for the Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen.

Monitoring the main fish and shellfish stocks

The laboratory's research involved monitoring the main fish and shellfish stocks exploited by Scottish fishermen, and the study of both existing and novel fishing gears.

It also assessed changes, both natural and man-made, in the marine environment of the North East Atlantic in general, and of the seas off Scotland in particular.
